Volunteers Needed as Weight Room Supervisors
We need more volunteers for this summer.

From Sean O'Dea
Given the budget crisis faced by USD 289 (and all school districts as well) there simply aren't the funds available to have paid weight room supervisors for after and before school hours. The same situation is true for the summer. We need volunteers. -----> Can you provide 1 1/2 - 2 hours a month? If you can do more; even better.
See contact information below.
JOIN US ... Wellsville High School Powerlifting Team

OK, we can now say that Wellsville High School has a powerlifting team. We will be sending WHS lifters to the West Franklin High Powerlifting Meet, Saturday Feb. 20th. It's our first meet. We'll have 3 or 4 lifters at the meet.
The Kansas 3A Power Lifting Championship Meet is later in March. We are shooting to have upwards to 10 lifters (maybe more) participating.
Any Wellsville High School student is welcome to join, at any time. This isn't just for the athletes. This would be a great opportunity for Wellsville students to get stronger, healthier and be a part of something exciting.
For athletes, this of course is an opportunity to get better through strength and explosiveness.
Participation in meets is NOT required. This means team members can progress at their own pace and participate in meets when the student feels ready.
Team lifting sessions will be posted both on the Powerlifting Team page (click here) and the Weightroom Hours and Operations page (click here)

Benefits of Strength Training for Women

THIS ISN'T JUST FOR THE GUYS ...
When it comes to athletes and sports, strength training is just as important to female athletes as it is to male athletes. But even if you're not involved in sports, strength training as a vehicle for physical fitness, is as meaningful to girls and women as it is to boys and men.
Some misconceptions associated with weight training are that women would produce bulging muscles and/or they would seriously injure themselves lifting weights. It is very difficult for a woman to produce large muscles due to the fact that women generally have high levels of the hormone estrogen.
The fact is improvements are made in muscle tone, strength and endurance and not necessarily in size. As muscles become toned, the body begins to lose fat tissue and becomes more firm. When it comes to strength training, anything that is considered a healthy practice for men is also healthy for women.

Benefits of Strength Training for Women:
- Increased Strength
- Increased Muscle Mass & Decreased Body Fat
- Increased Bone Density
- Improved Immune Function
- Reversed Effects of Aging
- Improved Mood & Increased Confidence
- Improved Quality of Life

Strength training benefits women greatly, possibly even more than it benefits men....Another difference between men and women that makes strength training even more beneficial for women is...
